The World Junior Championship took place this past month in Iceland, and one of our U18 premier goalies was there to take home gold!
Stephen Chen from the Mercer Chiefs represented Team China in the WJC. Chen won Goaltender of the Tournament, with three wins, a 0.959 save percentage, 1.33 goals against on average, and one shutout.
The World Juniors Championship is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation for national under-20 ice hockey teams from around the world.
Chen said, “It’s an experience of a lifetime and I am super proud to have represented my country for the first time, and I look to win more in the future.”
Rod Broderick, general manager and coach of the Chiefs said, “This is really amazing. This couldn’t have happened to a better kid.” We are beyond proud of you Stephen!”
